Applications, documents and ranking

In this page you'll find the deadlines of the calls for undergraduate applications and of the publication of the results, as well as the list of documents you have to upload into the online application tool (check the link to the application tool below after the list of documents).

You'll also find information about the way the applications will be ranked.

Deadlines for the academic year 2024/2025

1st Call

      List of documents to upload into the online application tool

      Please note that you may find more documents inside the application tool because it allows different types of applications for different study programmes and students from several countries. To facilitate your task in collecting the necessary documents, here you'll find only the relevant documents for Chinese applicants:

      1. Copy of Identity Document (Passport/ Foreign Identity Card).

      2. Declaration on honour, signed by the applicant, stating that he/she has not the Portuguese nationality, nor falls under any of the conditions that prevent him/her from applying to this competition, and that he/she has the necessary degree programme pre-requisites (when applicable). [The template of the declaration is available inside the application tool].

      3. For applicants with B1 or higher level of Portuguese Language Proficiency:

      • "DEPLE" diploma (Elementary Diploma of Portuguese as a Foreign Language) or a B1 level certificate issued by Faculty of Arts and Humanities of UC; or a self-declaration stating that the applicant has B1 level proficiency in Portuguese [MANDATORY whenever the applicant has or considers to have the B1 level, but has no certificate. The self-declaration template is available inside the application tool].

      4. For applicants with B2 or higher level of Portuguese Language Proficiency:

      • "DIPLE" diploma (Intermediate Diploma of Portuguese as a Foreign Language) or a B2 level certificate issued by Faculty of Arts and Humanities of UC; or a self-declaration stating that the applicant has B2 level proficiency in Portuguese [MANDATORY whenever the applicant has or considers to have the B2 level, but has no certificate. The self-declaration template is available inside the application tool].

      5. Document in English legalised by the Portuguese Consulate certifying the completion of the Senior Secondary School Graduation.

      6. Legalised document in English certifying the grades obtained in the National College Entrance Examination (Gaokao), in the National Higher Education Entrance Examination for Macao, Hong Kong and Taiwan students (Liankao), in the A-Level General Certificate of Education, in the Macao Joint Admission Examination (JAE) or in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

      IMPORTANT: ways of legalising the documents mentioned in the paragraph 6:

      Gaokao

      1) applicants can request the credentials report to the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC) and upload that document into the UC application tool. The Academic Services of UC will verify the authenticity of the report in the CDGDC website.

      OR

      2) the document can be certified by a notary and legalised by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and by the Portuguese Consulate. In this case, the applicant must upload a copy of the document and present the original one after his/her arrival at UC.

      Liankao

      The results are issued by the Office of the Mainland Chinese Universities and Colleges of P. R. China for the Joint Examinations and Enrolment of the Students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese-Resident Areas and Countries. 

      The applicant must upload the copy of the document and present the original certified by a notary and legalised by the Portuguese Consulate after his/her arrival at UC.

      Macao Joint Admission Examination (JAE)

      The applicant must complete a Declaration regarding his/her participation in Joint Admission Examination and submit the Declaration to the International Relations Unit of UC via email to dri.china@uc.pt.

      UC will then check the JAE result with the Higher Education Bureau of Macao.

      A-Level

      The applicant must upload the copy of the document and present the original certified by a notary and legalised by the Portuguese Consulate after his/her arrival at UC.

      International Baccalaureate

      Applicants have to ask their IB programme coordinator to send their transcripts with the grades directly to the University of Coimbra at international-applications@uc.pt.

      Students whose programme coordinator allows them to access their grades should upload their transcript into the UC application tool.

      Students not allowed to access their grades should upload copy of the request they have submitted to the programme coordinator asking him/ her to send their transcript to the UC. 

      All applicants have to present the original transcript after his/her arrival at UC.

      Ranking of the applications

      The ranking of the applications is done on a decreasing ranking order using the scores, converted to the Portuguese scale, of all international student submitted applications.
