16ICHSCR

16th International Charles Heidelberger Symposium on Cancer Research

Welcome to

The 16th International Charles Heidelberger Symposium on Cancer Research

Coimbra, Portugal

September 26-28, 2010

Dear Colleagues!

It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the 16th International Charles Heidelberger Symposium on Cancer Research (16ICHSCR), which will be held in Coimbra, Portugal, from September 26 to 28, 2010.

The Charles Heidelberger Symposia are broad cancer research meetings organized annually or biennially to honor the late Charles Heidelberger, former president of the American Association for Cancer Research, member of the National Academy of Sciences of the U.S.A., and an extraordinary scientist in the fields of carcinogenesis and cancer chemotherapy (he patented 5-fluorouracil (5FU), a drug that came to symbolize the promise chemotherapy of nonhematologic malignancies). The 16th edition of the Symposia will bring together scientists from around the world to present their achievements and discuss the most recent advances in cancer, from basic research to clinical applications. To foster networking, the participation to the Symposium is limited to about 150 scientists.

Coimbra, which is located approximately two hours by train north of Lisbon, is a friendly university town with many attractions, namely its University, which was founded in 1290 and is, therefore, one of the world’s oldest universities. Participants will have the opportunity to visit some of its most emblematic monuments, such as the Biblioteca Joanina (the Baroque library of the University of Coimbra, built in the 18th century during the reign of King João V).

We are looking forward to host you in Coimbra in September 2010 and to make 16ICHSCR a memorable scientific experience.
